Landfill Defined

(1) The disposal of solid wastes or sludges by placing on land, compacting and covering as appropriate with a thin layer of soil. (2) A waste management unit at which waste is discharged in or on land for disposal. It does not include surface impoundment, waste pile, treatment unit, injection well, or soil amendments.

As the popularity of biomass energy grows throughout the forest-rich areas of the Northwest United States, Montana has cemented its position as the standard-bearer for a large six-state effort called the Fuels for School and Beyond Program. Consultants report 30% decrease in dump waste
