Flotation Defined

(1) The separation of suspended particles, or oil and grease, from solution by naturally or artificially raising them to the surface, usually with air. (2) Thickening of waste activated sludge by injecting water supersaturated with air into a tank where the released air buoys the sludge or oil to the surface.
